UpLift Solutions MissionThe UpLift Solutions Mission consists of creating synergies between government agencies, non-profits and businesses to utilize resources for improving ‘at-risk' communities. UpLift Solutions strives to address problems of limited food access, substandard education, inadequate safety, and unequal opportunities in order to overcome challenges experienced by many in these communities. UpLift Solutions, Inc. proposes to improve this situation, in concert with other nonprofit and governmental agencies, through the following work:
Develop Availability of Fresh Food
Develop staff, programs and materials to aid government and nonprofit efforts to establish new grocery stores in under-served areas, and to train grocers on the best methods for successful operation in such communities. The organization currently works with The Food Trust and The Reinvestment Fund, both leading nonprofit entities in this field, to achieve this goal.
Increase Access for the Homebound
Develop a food and pharmaceutical delivery system for homebound low-income people. The incremental costs associated with order collection, selection and delivery of goods will be subsidized by the organization, thus ensuring that the resulting total cost be competitive with traditional self-service supermarkets. The food items could be purchased with Food Stamps or other assistance programs.
Expand Community Involvement
Enhance the role that a traditional grocery store plays in an underprivileged community. By partnering with existing grocery stores, Uplift Solutions will guide community organization, education on methods, and outreach and direct assistance to help local neighborhoods solve their own problems. The organization seeks to field community projects through their local grocery partners to resolve quality-of-life issues (local food pantry improvements, community clean-ups, anti-violence programs) in a pro-active, community-operated manner.
In summary, Uplift Solutions will challenge the limited supply of affordable, accessible, fresh food in low-income communities while also addressing the social issues that plague underserved neighborhoods.
